Some times ago we reported about the first powerline–tests made bei Preussen–Elektra. Now, only a few weeks later, RWE also started their powerline–systems [information :: http://www.powerlinenet.de]

A broadcast report tells more about details especially for computer users: the powerline is more than 30 times faster than ISDN lines and network–cables can be substituted by »normal« power interconnections.

Certainly only the advantages were reported, not the disadvantages: digital data contains by nature RF signals which will be transferred as well as unwanted RF distortion. The mixture of both, wanted and unwanted RF–signals in the MHz region will cause new distortions and that means – for high quality audio equipment – degradation of sound. This will happen especially for units which are not hardened against these sorts of distortions from the start [older designs].

One of the possible solutions is to screen mains leads and a careful rewiring of the mains installation, for example with the cicable PC3+1EMS cable. How much RF–distortions can be reduced, you can see on this page.
