cicable
starts the series of superfidelity crossovers with a version
for the legendary BBC monitor LS3/5a, which is worldwide still
one of the best »mini« loudspeakers.
Historically there were two versions, a 15Ohm and a 11Ohm version.
Both versions provide the ability to adjust the sensitivity
of the units relative to each other for a flat response. The
cicable xover will be machted individually for all versions
of whatever brand [see pxoinformation
and the customerquestionnaire
].
How much the cicable xovers improve the sound of the LS3/5a
speakers, show the comments in Paul Whatton's forum [www.ls35a.com],
Paul is the son of LS3/5a designer Maurice Whatton
and a first review by Ken Kessler in HiFiNews. Ken Kessler,
well known author in HiFiNews, is a dedicated friend of
the LS3/5a BBC monitor. In the spring he reviewed most of the
different models and brands [LS3/5a
Shoot Out! ].
Just in time for the London HiFi Show he reviewed the cicable
xover in combination with a11Ohm LS3/5a. Here an extract...
»The
cicable crossover is an investment and a reversible tweak
for someone who already owns LS3/5As and like the
owner of a vintage car professionally converted for leadfree
wants to use them on a daily basis ... It is a perfect
product in that it does precisely what it's supposed to do,
and the panel unanimously voiced its approval. If
only all aftermarket »black boxes« were
this »good«
So far
so good: Ken and the others of the listening panel are really
exited. The audible perfection on the highest level for just
the price of some of the long list of voodoo cables,
that's waht makes the heart of any LS3/5a enthusiast beat [see
the complete review with kind permission from Ken as
file].
